Stanton Ave. Phase II Complete Street Update
Roadway To Receive Second Round of Upgrades
Pittsburgh, PA – Residents living on and traveling through Stanton Avenue should be aware of construction work on the second phase of the Stanton Avenue Complete Street beginning. The Department of Mobility and Infrastructure (DOMI) will begin work on the following roadway upgrades:
Concrete raised bike lane
Bike lane integrated bus boarding island
Signage, flex posts, pavement, and pavement markings.
The second phase of the Complete Street upgrade for Stanton Ave. address the critical need for protected micro and macro-mobility infrastructure that will ensure the safety of our most vulnerable road users.
“The Stanton Avenue Complete Street project demonstrates how hard our teams at the Department of Mobility and Infrastructure work to make our streets both accessible and equitable. Accessibility and equity are crucial components of achieving zero traffic fatalities,” said Mayor Ed Gainey.
The second phase of this project comes after the completion of Phase I in Fall of 2022 where DOMI installed speed cushions, bicycle climbing lanes, and permanent signage. While the goal of Phase I was to make a safe and comfortable connection for all roadway users of Stanton Avenue. The goal for Phase II is to respond to documented speeding issues while working to improve transit stops, create safer connections for cyclists, and improve pedestrian crossings.
Construction work is tentatively expected to start today, Monday, July 8th, 2024 with construction of the bus boarding island taking priority and lasting through the rest of the week. Repaving, pavement markings, vertical elements, and signage are expected to take up to two weeks.
