Morningside Information

Public Transportation

Bus lines that serve our entire neighborhood are the 75 and 87. For more information about the exact routes, please consult the Port Authority website

Street Parking and Street Cleaning

Street parking is ample throughout Morningside and a permit is not needed. The city does street cleaning once a month from April 1st to November 30th. Here in Morningside, our street cleaning always occurs during the second week of the month. One side of the street is cleaned on Wednesday and the other side is cleaned on Thursday. Please consult the signs on your street for the exact times. On designated street cleaning days, you must move your car or you will be ticketed!

Neighborhood Schools

Morningside feeds into the Pittsburgh Public School District. To find out which schools your child is assigned to, use the Discover PPS tool. You can also find more information about magnet programs and early childhood education options on the PPS website.

Currently, Morningside is home to the Environmental Charter High School on the St. Raphael’s campus at the corner of Hampton and Chislett.

Trash and Recycling Pick-Up

The City of Pittsburgh offers trash pick-up and recycling services free of charge to city residents. Trash pick-up in Morningside is on Thursdays. Recycling is picked up along with the trash every other Thursday. Click here for the refuse pick-up schedule

  • The City does not provide trash cans. If you are shopping for new trash cans, make sure they are not bigger than 35 gallons. The trash collectors will not take your trash if the containers are too big.

  • Bags are not to be used to dispose of recycling as they cause problems with our single stream recycling system. Please put your loose recyclables directly in a recycling bin. The City may be able to provide you with a blue bin. Contact 311 for more information.

  • What can be recycled curbside is limited, especially when it comes to plastics. Please read about the guidelines on the City website.

  • If your trash/recycling is not picked up on the correct day, you can report a missed pick-up to 311 and they will send someone out to get it.

  • Twice a year the City offers yard and leaf waste recycling via curbside pick-up. During these pick-ups, lawn materials, leaves, and other organic material are recycled instead of being put in the dump. Consult PGH.st for dates. You can bring your yard waste to any of the City drop-off locations for recycling year-round.

  • The city will pick up one or two large bulk items per week during regular curbside collection. No special arrangements are needed. You can just place the items out with your regular trash. If you need more bulk items picked up at one time, call 412-255-2773 to schedule a special pick-up for an additional fee. For all guidelines about bulk waste pick up, visit the Department of Public Works website.

  • In the state of PA, you cannot dispose of certain electronics in your curbside trash. These items must be recycled. The Pennsylvania Resources Council (PCR) is now handling e-waste and hazardous household chemical recycling for the City of Pittsburgh. Read more about what they collect and get drop-off details on the PCR website.
