MORNINGSIDE ACTIVITIES & RECREATION

PARKS

Morningside is home to two small city parks: Heth’s Field and Natoli Field. Both parks offer different amenities and play home to the various Morningside sports leagues.

Heth’s Field is on the south side of Morningside at the intersection of Heth’s Avenue and Hampton Street. Park features include: playground, tennis court, ball field, and soccer field

Natoli Field is located behind the business district, with entrances off of President Way, Antietam Street, and Villanova Road. Park features include: playground, ball fields, soccer fields, and Natoli Fieldhouse.

the John DelSignore Bocce Courts

Located behind St. Raphael’s campus, the John DelSignore Bocce Courts are one of Morningside’s best kept secrets. The recreation area features three meticulously maintained bocce courts, lights, benches, a small storage area, and most importantly a lot of history from over the past 30 years!

Morningside’s bocce courts serve as home to a popular neighborhood bocce league. Founded in 1990, you will still find league play there most summer nights, with seven of the original members still playing (and dominating) this season! Wednesday and Thursday nights are for the women’s league, with men playing on the other nights of the week. The league has players of all ages, including several players in their 90s. Players travel from around the city and local suburbs to participate, but a majority of the teams still walk to the courts each week from their homes in Morningside.

When not in use for league play, the bocce courts are open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. There is currently no official reservation system for the courts. They are maintained by community volunteers from the bocce league, so please be mindful of the space by respecting it and keeping it clean.

Most games start at 7:00 p.m.

MORNINGSIDE COMMUNITY GARDEN

The Morningside Community Garden is located next to the bocce courts behind St. Raphael’s. These plots are managed by the City, but privately maintained by gardeners in the neighborhood. If you are interested in learning more about the community garden or applying for a plot, please use our contact form to get in touch
