Jon Bindley is Kicking Butts!
Hi, I'm Jon Bindley and I live and work in Morningside. I teach at the Environmental Charter High School which is temporarily located at the St. Raphael's Campus. One thing we focus on in my class is trying to do our small part to clean up our neighborhoods. It doesn't take long to notice one of the biggest problems plaguing our environment -- cigarette butts! They are everywhere! They contain a lot of harmful chemicals that transmit into our sewers and waterways.
When I found out that the city was piloting a program for "Ballot Boxes" whereby smokers can dispose of cigarette butts to cast their votes on local opinion questions, I reached out to Christopher Mitchell from the Department of Public works and they generously agreed to set one up in Morningside. Hopefully, this will encourage our community members who smoke to do the right thing and dispose of their cigarette butts responsibly! It takes all of us to make a difference!
