Inflation Reduction Act Tax Rebate Info

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) passed last year by Congress provides substantial rebates and tax credits for home upgrades that reduce energy usage and promote sustainable home energy systems. The programs are going into effect this year and will be available through 2032.

Weatherization (insulation, sealing), solar, windows, exterior doors, major appliance upgrades, electric panel and wiring, and heat pumps are just some of the projects covered under the rebate programs.

Rebates are designed to be point-of-purchase/point-of-service so that your upfront costs can be anywhere from $0 out of pocket to 50% of project costs (up to very generous project maximums). Rebate amounts are based on income: households at 80% or less of the Area Median Income (AMI) can receive 100% of project costs. Households from 80 to 150% of AMI receive 50% of project costs.

Tax credits are available without income restrictions and provide 30% credits for a host of energy-saving home projects, including solar installation, weatherization, HVAC, battery storage, and car charging stations, to name a few.

The website RewiringAmerica.org provides an easy and comprehensive overview of all of the programs available, along with a savings calculator that will let you know your income eligibility.
