2024 Easter Egg Hunt and Egg Drop
On Saturday, March 23 more than 100 kids and their grown ups continued the long-held tradition of hunting for treat-filled eggs during inclement weather at the MACC Easter Egg Hunt and Egg Drop. This free event was held on the parish lawn at St. Raphael Church where 1,500 eggs were dumped, rolled, tossed, raked and carefully hidden by Nan Pischke and her team of kid volunteers including Sam Vassallo, Grace Vassallo, Ilan Marietti, Althea Marietti, Kadyn Boirum and Zinnia Bontrager-Shenk.
In addition to the egg hunt, attendees enjoyed spring and Easter-themed activity stations provided by City Squeakers Playgroup, free coffee from De Fer Coffee & Tea, a craft table, a Rubik’s Cube circle and the comradery of friends - old and new - in the warmth of the church gym. La Palapa’s food truck also served up delicious tacos, quesadillas and empanadas in the parking lot.
At the end of the event, kids ages 8-12 competed in the third-annual MACC egg drop. Thanks to a generous contribution by Polished Dental, all 15 participants received a $10 gift card to Waterworks Cinemas, plus a coupon for a free medium popcorn. Lock & Dam Dog Shop also gave each participant a coupon for a free ice cream cone. For the first round, each of the 15 kid-made contraptions were thrown up in the air and then allowed to fall on the concrete sidewalk. Ten contraptions made it through this round with unbroken eggs. Thanks to Morningside resident, Curt Boirum, our second round was brought to new heights as he flew each contraption to 100 feet via drone and dropped them. Five of the contraptions protected their eggs from breaking during this descent which left us with the following winners who each received a $25 cash prize: (Pictured from left to right) Zinnia Bontrager-Shenk, Milana Hernandez, Althea Marietti, Kadyn Boirum and Olan Schaefers. Congratulations to you all!
Putting on this event is a true community effort. We’d like to thank St. Jude Parish for allowing us to use their space, Matt and Vanessa Marietti for hosting the egg stuffing party, donating the De Fer coffee and for your shared love and enthusiasm for this event, Karren Davis for stuffing so many eggs without complaining, Nan Pischke for leading the egg hunt year after year, Merritt Donoghue for securing the La Palapa food truck, Kellie Miner for all of your day-of help, John Vassallo for judging the egg drop with precision and transporting awkwardly-sized items to the event and back, Curt Boirum for agreeing to use your professional drone operating skills for frivolity and thus creating an unforgettable experience for both the kids and adults, Dr. Joey Troupe of Polished Dental for so enthusiastically sponsoring the egg drop, LeAnn and Rick from Lock & Dam Dog Shop for going above and beyond to make sure the kids received the free ice cream coupons. This event would not have happened without all of you and others who pitched in without hesitation.
See you next year!
